MARY OPRAH MARY OPRAH

Oprah loves Mary.  Mary Richards.  Mary Tyler Moore brought her and her entire cast to Oprah's studio.  Oprah brought Mary her former work place and her former apartment.  Oprah grew up admiring Mary Richards, her independence, her tacit permission that it is okay to be single and a working gal.  A novel concept in the 70s.  

Oprah wanted to be Mary.  She wanted to go to Minneapolis and be a news woman for WJM-TV.  Shall I just go there?  Oprah is my Mary.  Okay, it's been said and we can move on.  I get Oprah.  We all need someone who makes us want to be our best, to step out of ourselves, to help us realize our dream.  When Oprah's staffers surprised her with a guest appearance from Mary some years ago, Oprah went to the ugly cry.  Today, she said there have been no surprises since then.  I get that emotion.  Most women with role models also get it.  Thanks, to Mary for inspiring Oprah.  Thanks to Oprah, for inspiring me.

The whole cast still has it.  Chemistry that is.  It was fun to see them all together and see that energy re-created.  Oprah's staff did an incredible job.  And guess what?  They put that show together sometime after 11 am for the next taping.  This was the show that was taped after my Hot Picks For Summer show.  I don't know how they did it, but they got an incredible set of stages set up.  Now, don't get me wrong.  It wasn't better than the stage for my show.  The energy wasn't greater.  But then again, I'm biased.  Mary coming to Oprah, well that's history making for them.  My getting to Oprah; that was history making for me.
